Complimentary webcast examines trends for support strategies and IoT technologies revealed at CES® 2017
An upcoming webcast on February 9 from Parks Associates will review top IoT trends and technologies revealed at CES® 2017, the support strategies emerging around these innovations, and tools to protect consumer privacy while leveraging data for proactive support. The IoT research firm recently announced new data at CES showing that 26% of U.S. broadband households now own at least one smart home device.
“Smart home device ownership continues to rise, increasing from 19% of U.S. broadband households at the end of 2015 to 26% at the beginning of 2017,” said Patrice Samuels, Senior Analyst, Parks Associates. “With this increase comes an added importance for companies to provide quality support strategies that protect consumer privacy, which is often overlooked during product development.”
Parks Associates research shows consumers are increasingly aware about risks to privacy and data security in smart home devices; 45% of U.S. broadband households are very concerned that someone will gain unauthorized access and control of a smart home device.

Parks Associates will discuss the role of support in today’s hyper-connected home environment, the role of data in proactive support solutions, and how brands can provide effective support while minimizing the use of support resources during the complimentary webcast “Support, Privacy, and IoT: Thoughts from CES® 2017” on Thursday, February 9, at 1 p.m. CT (11 a.m. PT). Presenters include Samuels and Brad Russell, Research Analyst, Parks Associates.
“Consumers are more likely to experience problems with smart home products that are new to the market and those that have lower market penetration,” Samuels said. “A higher percentage of smart fan, sprinkler system, and blind/drape owners report problems with their devices because smart fans are new to the market, while sprinkler systems and blinds/drapes have relatively low market penetration when compared to other smart home products.”
During the webcast, Samuels will also examine the following topics:
- Why brands are rethinking their support strategies
- The role of support, including premium support, in today’s connected ecosystem
- Strategies for brands to offset the increasing cost burden of support
- Drivers and barriers to the use of predictive analytics in support
- The importance of considering security and privacy in product development
Research analyst Brad Russell will also discuss:
- Key takeaways from a panel at CES 2017 focused on negotiating privacy and security strategies when developing IoT partnerships
- New products launched at CES designed to secure home networks
- Reflections on the recent FCC whitepaper on cybersecurity and the potential of mandated security testing for IoT products
