Parks Associates will highlight research from its surveys of MDU residents and owners/managers, including the following data:

  • Smart building technologies generate an average 20% cost savings for owners/operators.
  • 14% of US apartment residents report paying an amenity fee for technology.
  • 21% of condo owners pay a technology amenity fee to their HOA.
  • The average monthly technology amenity fee is $75 for renters and $80 for condo owners.
  • 83% of apartment renters who pay tech amenity fees feel they are worth it.
  • 91% of condo owners who pay tech amenity fees feel they are worth it.
  • NYC apartment residents with amenity fees pay an average of $100/month.
  • LA apartment residents with amenity fees pay an average of $164/month.
  • DFW apartment residents with amenity fees pay an average of $96/month.

“Apartment renters are generally dissatisfied with their units and complexes, reflected in a negative net promoter score (NPS) for their property,” said Mindi Sue Sternblitz-Rubenstein, Vice President of Marketing, Parks Associates. “Technology can reverse that trend. For example, the presence of bulk internet in an apartment community boosts NPS by 26 points, compared to those who have only retail internet options. Smart property tech solutions, when deployed and managed correctly, can improve resident satisfaction and retention.”
