Parks Associates research finds gaming consoles and tablets are the most popular CE gift purchases for family members this holiday season. 2013 Holiday CE Purchase Intentions, which features a 4Q 2013 survey of U.S. broadband households, shows 47% of game-console shoppers and 45% of tablet shoppers plan to buy these products as gifts for a household member.
The research firm will host CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES on January 7, 2014, in Las Vegas, to discuss business strategies to leverage and monetize the expanding population of connected devices in the home. The session "New Connected CE Business Models" features executives from Accedo, Delivery Agent, Qualcomm Atheros, Roku, and Sling Media.
Before the economic downturn, more consumers were buying these devices as outside gifts, but following the Great Recession, CE shoppers now like to keep these gifts close to home. Tablets and game consoles are two of the top-three CE gifts this holiday season, but only 14-15% of the shoppers for these devices are gifting them to people outside the household. Over 75% of the gift purchases for these devices are for a family member in the household.
