Consumers give thumbs-up to e-enabled security options

As intercSecurity Systems Newsonnectivity via broadband or the Internet rises within American households, so, too, does the usage of an electronic home security system.

According to Primary Perspectives:  E-Enabled Home Security, a report published by Parks Associates, 40 percent of households with broadband connections also have an electronic home security system.

That number is just slightly ahead of Internet-enabled homes, 36 percent of which also have an electronic security system.  Lagging behind at 23 percent are all U.S. households.

The report is based on a survey of 10,500 U.S. Internet-using households.  It examines home security, home management ownership and use and looks at consumer interest in emerging home security applications.

"With two-way broadband connections now common in many U.S. households, some very interesting and compelling home management applications can find true commercial value," said Kurt Scherf, vice president-research, in a prepared statement.  "With home and personal safety on the rise, traditional home security players - as well as a host of new players in the services, hardware and software sectors - will find new footing in this market," he said....
