The National Advertising Division (NAD) has gone after Nest, at the prompting of competitor Honeywell, after several of Nest's advertisements appeared to stretch the truth.

The NAD has recommended that Nest Labs modify or discontinue some of its claims about the Nest brand programmable thermostat.   NAD said in a press release that the advertiser has already discontinued some of its claims, however, there is still some disagreement.

The advertisements in question include a claim that the device "can automatically lower air-conditioning costs up to 30%," as well as exclusivity claims regarding its "System Match," "Filter Reminders," and "Built in Level" features.  Nest labs also issued claims on the behalf of consumers that other thermostat brands were complicated and wasteful.

Nest Labs disagreed with some of NAD's recommendations, but issued a statement that it does intend to modify its advertising.
