Scott Burns, Director of Product Innovation at Reliant, responds to this industry question: "What do you think is the most challenging issue for your company as it relates to the residential energy management market?"

For Reliant, the biggest challenge we face is helping customers understand new ways of managing their energy, given the deluge of information they receive on a daily - or even hourly - basis. We continue to seek new ways for engaging customers directly to help them find the energy plan or service that best fits their lifestyle, rather than adhering to the old "top-down", one-size-fits-all customer mandate approach.  We constantly seek new ways to deliver the products, services and information our customers need before they even realize they need it, like analyzing energy consumption information for our customers so that they can more easily make decisions on how best to manage energy usage.

Scott Burns is speaking at the ninth-annual Smart Energy Summit on Tuesday, February 18. He is part of the session "Energy Management Programs: How to Engage the Apathetic Customer," with other company representatives from Duke Energy, EcoFactor, TXU Energy, and Vivint.
