The executives from Qualcomm provide the following answer to this industry question: "What do you think is the most challenging issue for your company as it relates to the connected home?"

The Connected SmartHome, as a major part of the Internet of Everything (IoE), represents a significant opportunity for Qualcomm and for any company seeking to provide consumers products and services that work together in smart and useful ways in the home. The Internet of Everything is based on the idea that devices, objects and systems can be connected in simple, transparent ways to enable seamless sharing of information not only between devices but with people too. No single company can accomplish the level of interoperability required to support the Internet of Everything. This is the key challenge -- for Qualcomm and for every company seeking to participate in a horizontal IoE, where products from many different brands must work together easily. Fostering a horizontal ecosystem requires cooperation among companies accustomed to competing. But such "coopetition" has many precedents in business, and real progress is being made in the area of IoE, generally, and with products and services for the connected smart home, specifically. Fostering a dynamic horizontal ecosystem is why AllJoyn is an open source project; it is why the AllSeen Alliance was established as a united, pan-industry effort to foster a dynamic ecosystem and deliver new experiences to consumers and businesses.

Qualcomm is participating in two sessions during this year's CONNECTIONS Conference. Tom Marchok, Senior Director of Business Development, will be speaking at "Wearable Computing: Driving New Connected Home Experiences" on May 13, and Joseph Bousaba, Senior Director of Product Management, will speak during "Interoperability in the Internet of Things" on May 15.

Qualcomm is also a CONNECTIONS Silver Sponsor.
