Research firm reports 28% of U.S. broadband households use a health, medical, or wellness app

Parks Associates today announced executives from Alarm.com, IBM Watson Health, Providence St. Joseph Health, Qualcomm Life, and Uber Health will be the keynote speakers for the fifth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, being held August 28-30 in San Diego at the Grand Hyatt Manchester.

The conference’s keynotes will address how technology is meeting the changing healthcare needs in both the consumer and commercial markets. The event also features a pre-show workshop, “Independent Living and Wellness: A Growing Opportunity,” and sessions that examine consumer adoption and usage of connected health technologies and their expansion into the smart home, healthcare, and independent living ecosystems.

New research from Parks Associates’ 360 View: Health and Independent Living shows more than one-fourth of U.S. broadband households use an app to track or manage their health or wellness, with adoption highest among consumers ages 18-34.

“The number of consumers using health apps has increased since early 2017, and 40% of current app users have two or more health-related apps they use,” said Jennifer Kent, Director, Research Quality & Product Development, Parks Associates. “With the consumerization of healthcare comes the realization among consumers that IoT solutions can help them stay healthy—about one-half of app users downloaded the app independently of a product or wellness program. At Connected Health Summit, we will track consumer adoption of these solutions and its wider impact on independent living solutions and the smart home ecosystem.”

Connected Health Summit also features the special session “Improving Patient Outcomes through Connected Health,” 2:00 p.m. on August 29, where speakers from DISH and Independa discuss new solutions and market partnerships to deliver personalized care to people in a meaningful way, through an integrated approach to remote engagement and care that leverages available resources in the home, including the TV screen as well as smart home and connected health solutions.

The 2018 Advisory Board for Connected Health Summit includes executives from Best Buy; Care Innovations, an Intel company; Comcast; EarlySense Inc.; GreatCall; Life365; MDLIVE; Mosaic Growth Partners; Omron Healthcare; Orbita; Providence St. Joseph Health; and Walmart.
