Parks Associates’ Connected Health Summit Addresses Impact of 5G and AI on Consumer Healthcare

Summit features speakers from AT&T, Verizon, Medtronic, Conversa Health, and more

Connected health research fromParks Associates finds 13-15% of U.S. broadband households are “very interested” in data-driven health such as an app that collects vital signs or a digital health coach service. These consumers, especially those with chronic health conditions, represent the early market for AI-enabled healthcare services, and the research firm will host its fifth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, August 28-30 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, to discuss strategies to target and appeal to these consumers with early service trials and designs.

“Data analytics will allow healthcare services to expand their ability to mine structured and unstructured data, perform diagnostics, personalize treatments, identify risk patterns, recommend predictive interventions, analyze imaging, and track patient progress for wellness and treatment programs,” said Brad Russell, Director, Connected Home Research, Parks Associates.

The session “AI in Health: Improving the Care Experience,” 8:30 a.m. on August 30, will explore processes to implement AI in these specific healthcare scenarios and strategies to apply AI successfully to improve the experience for patients and family members.

During the session “Innovations in Connectivity: 5G for Health,” 10:45 a.m. on August 30, panelists will examine the criteria for developers and manufacturers when selecting and implementing technologies for their healthcare solutions and steps to guard against obsolescence and ensure interoperability.

Speakers for the sessions include:

Nancy Green, Global Practice Lead, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Verizon Enterprise Solutions

Phil Marshall, Co-founder & Chief Product Officer, Conversa Health

Michael Nova, CIO and Founder, Pathway OME

Nanette Oddo, President, Ada Health

Jim Pursley, Chief Commercial Officer, Livongo

Shanthi Ramakrishnan, CEO, eDevice

Tad Reynes, Regional VP, Healthcare Solutions, AT&T

Jim Seles, Director, Data and Digital Innovations, Medtronic Diabetes

"5G is going to change the way we live, work, learn, and even access healthcare,” said Nancy Green, Global Practice Lead - Healthcare, Verizon. “Imagine a patient and physical therapist in different locations collaborating on a treatment regimen in real time using virtual reality. Or a doctor being able to examine a patient and prescribe a treatment plan using high-definition video. That's the potential of 5G."

“AI has the potential to help transform our healthcare experience from one that is reactive and episodic to one that is proactive, continuous, collaborative, and personalized,” said Phil Marshall, co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Conversa, a Conversational AI platform. “When you add the reimbursement changes proposed by Medicare, you have the makings for a watershed moment for AI-driven virtual care.”

“It is our feeling that the consumer is helping to drive the adoption of AI in healthcare by demanding personalization and real-time access to data-driven recommendations,” said Michael Nova, CIO and Founder, Pathway OME.

"Billions of people worldwide stand to benefit from AI-enabled healthcare services," said Nanette Oddo, President, Ada Health. "AI-based assessment tools like Ada are already driving down costs for patients and improving access to high-quality care. Further, AI is augmenting doctors' and nurses' work, allowing them to provide more personalized care to their patients. The possibilities are limitless."

“Thoughtful application of technologies will unleash greater engagement from consumers,” said Shanthi Ramakrishnan, CEO, eDevice. “We, at eDevice, are excited to see collaboration strengthening amongst medical device manufacturers, technology companies, service providers, and physicians in order to offer seamless and positive experience for consumers who are ready to adopt connected care solutions.”
