The eighth-annual CONNECTIONS Europe technology conference in Amsterdam next week will feature multiple sessions examining the evolution and implications of TV services, as Parks Associates research shows over 70% of pay-TV households in Western Europe now have access to multiscreen/TV Everywhere services. The global market research firm will host CONNECTIONS Europe: Monetization Strategies for the Connected Home November 12-13 at the Mövenpick Hotel. Press registration, including access to event materials, is available online.
OTT services, cord cutting, and the emergence of TV Everywhere services are developing down different paths in North America and Europe. Current experiments by Netflix and HBO in Europe will likely change the composition of pay TV in both continents. Roughly 50% of U.S. pay-TV households who report having TV Everywhere use it monthly, mostly to catch up on TV viewing. Nearly 25% of U.S. broadband households regularly watch video on a mobile phone, while 18% watch video on a tablet.
Parks Associates reports 25% of U.S. pay-TV subscribers have tried watching online video that requires authentication but the viewing process has caused multiple headaches for viewers. Parks Associates will examine the current and future trajectory of these services in Europe at CONNECTIONS™ Europe. Multiple sessions on November 12 are focused on multiscreen services, content discovery, and video apps, featuring companies Ericsson, Ziggo, Com Hem, Cognik, NORIGIN MEDIA, and more.
