Michael Clegg, SVP and GM of Service Provider Business at NETGEAR, offers insight into industry issues prior to speaking at CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES in January:
What is the most important next step to engage consumers in smart home solutions, connected entertainment services, and/or value–added services like tech support and connected health?
We need a standardized protocol for device connectivity, attachment and authentication. Today there are too many—WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Zwave, etc. We need simple pairing and association, and a simple way to authenticate devices and service.
What are the most important initiatives your company is taking in 2015?
Further innovation in device connectivity—speed, usability, services support and cloud offerings.
Describe your vision for the smart home and entertainment markets in 2020.
Multiple devices can be seamlessly connected, easily authenticated and integrated in a personal user cloud service so a user can go to one site and see all their devices and services no matter the provider, and then be able to link and configure them so they work together. Mobility is ubiquitous—devices can be configured and operated from any location.
Michael Clegg will be speaking on the panel “Streaming Media Devices in the Video Ecosystem” during CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES in Las Vegas, NV, January 6, 2015. He will be joined by other company representatives from Amazon, AT&T, Comcast, Roku, and TiVo, Inc.
