Parks Associates’ Mobile Health: Uptake by Consumers and Care Providers examines use of mobile technologies by both consumers and care workers in health applications.
More than 90% of U.S. households own a mobile phone, and smartphone penetration reached 33% of U.S. broadband households by midyear 2010. At the same time, almost one in five consumers have used the Web for personal health tracking and sharing.
The confluence of digital health technologies and strong mobile preferences is pushing growth in the connected wellness and fitness market, and care providers are taking note. Ultimately, the mobile platform will become another frontier to deliver care services directly to consumers, and consumers will use these tools increasingly to manage their own and their family’s health.
This study provides valuable insight on consumer preferences and both the present and future impact of mobile services in the healthcare sector. The findings are invaluable to medical and personal health tool manufacturers, mobile application developers, mobile handset and entertainment device manufacturers, online/mobile health service providers, broadband communications service providers including mobile carriers, health content providers, and any healthcare providers interested in offering products and services.
