New smart energy research from Parks Associates shows U.S. broadband households are adopting energy-saving solutions that could be the foundation for future smart home services and the Internet of Things:
- Roughly 50% own a programmable thermostat, and 11% have a thermostat that can connect to the Internet
- Roughly 20% own an electric or natural gas vehicle
- Roughly 20% own smart lighting or door lock equipment
CES 2014 had many Internet-connected appliances on display that will contribute to the Internet of Things, and Parks Associates research shows growing consumer interest in these energy-saving solutions. Smart Energy Summit next month will bring together the biggest names in the industries, including keynotes from Nest, Comcast, Austin Energy, and ecobee, to discuss this growing consumer demand and business solutions for utilities, service providers, retailers, and manufacturers.
