Steve Shapiro, Group Director, Product Management, ADT will be participating on the CONNECTIONS Session, Connected Home Systems and Services. We welcome ADT as a participant at our event.
What new advances/changes has your company made in the last 12 months?
As a company, we have started to think beyond just security. We recognize that there’s a new generation of home owners that want information, technology and connectivity in home security, as well as lifestyle management – on their terms. These consumers are more tech savvy than prior generations and want more connected and customized systems. They’re moving way past the old school model of alarm panels and keypads. They’re also very much in tune with their environment and making strides to do their part in conserving energy. So ADT Security has worked very hard to merge these components of lifestyle and security to give today’s home owners a completely modern system that matches their standard of living.
From a lifestyle perspective, ADT Pulse enables a consumer to control any number of appliances and controls in the home related to energy - including lighting, appliance and thermostat control. ADT has estimated that customers can experience as much as 30% monthly energy savings just by having the ability to view the status of lighting, appliances and thermostats and control them remotely
The combination of real-time web-based access to energy use information provided by the utility company, and the ability to control energy-using appliances in the home via ADT Pulse, provides a powerful combination for consumers to both save on energy costs while reducing energy consumption and protecting the environment.
Do you feel your company is the strongest player in the market? If so, why?
I think that you will see a lot of players emerge in this space, all from different positions of strength. With ADT Pulse, we established first-mover position and help set the standard for the next-generation of interactive smart homes. We’ve also solved the most difficult part of the equation – life safety. Nobody from the telecom or cable industries can deliver the level of security that we can deliver. We’ve now added advanced life style management onto the proven life safety platform to deliver a total solution. Also, we provide a level of high-touch customer service to which many of the other players are not accustomed. There will be a place in the market for the do-it-yourself offerings, and also for the really high-end custom home automation. But we feel that we have the right product for driving mass-market adoption.
Do you have any new products/services? If so, please elaborate on their features.
ADT Pulse is our new interactive - and affordable - smart home solution that goes beyond traditional home security to provide a level of control, accessibility and connection with the home that is ideal for today’s “mobile” consumer. ADT Pulse goes beyond motion sensors and intrusion alarm protection by allowing customers to manage all aspects of their home – from lifestyle to security - remotely from their
iPhone, Droid, BlackBerry or other mobile device from a single system. Consumers can use the remote system to do the following anytime and anywhere – and much more:
o Arm/disarm the home security system from their iPhone while away on vacation
o Get notified via email/text on occurrences, such as kids unlocking and walking through front door so you know they’re home from school, package delivered to the front door, etc.
o View inside your home from your Smartphone or laptop to make sure kids are safe or to monitor an elderly relative
o Access appliances – such as turning off an iron left on by accident or customizing crock pot settings from the office so dinner is ready on time
o Adjust the home’s temperature or turn lights on/off to help save on utility bills
o Unlock/lock your doors remotely if you need to let someone in, but don’t want to leave a key under the mat
