Smart Home Solutions - Insights from Sprosty Network

What emerging technologies could tip the smart home scale from early adopter to mass market adoption?

One of the barriers to adoption of smart home technology is the installation, setup and ease of use when trying to work different smart home solutions. With evolving mobile solutions coming to the market, such as 5G, it will allow for a streamlined out of the box experience where customers will no longer be required to connect or pair certainly smart home technologies to their local WiFi network, but instead simply plug in and the solution will work. In addition to improving the installation and setup, it will also allow for better support and the ability to have centralized device management in the cloud simplifying device interoperability and automation.

What impact will DIY solutions have on the traditional security landscape?

The introduction of DIY solutions into the traditional security landscape has significantly changed the market. DIY now offers customers better choice and control of their home security needs. The definition of home security is no longer homogenized and customers self-define security based on their individual needs. These needs can be defined by the types of products and services, such as cameras and professional monitoring, a given price for the solution, contract terms, and the option of being able to setup and install the solution themselves.

How can the quality of life for seniors be impacted by smart home solutions?

Smart home solutions for seniors, is going to redefine how seniors age and receive care. Today, there are solutions in the market that monitor Activities of Daily Living (ADL) helping care providers recognize potential care issues in advance of emergency situations. This monitoring allows for seniors and their caregivers to create a care and living environment that in many cases allows seniors to more independently age in place giving peace of mind to the senior and their caregiver. Smart home is also transitioning beyond activity monitoring into that of chronic disease for issues such as medication, diabetes, blood pressure, and many other routine by life threatening medical needs.
