What's new in 2018 that keeps you upbeat/optimistic about the connected health market?
We’re seeing great health and business outcomes with our customers and in the market. The market is really developing to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of consumers. It’s great to see innovation be valued and implemented to create high impact. We’re also seeing significant growth in investment in connected health technologies and companies, by VCs, and by healthcare organizations – not only through the operational and clinical departments but also by the venture teams in those organizations.

What's the most effective strategy/approach you have seen that engages consumers for health wellness behavioral changes?
The most effective strategy to engage consumers and drive behavioral change is through utilizing a combination of data, machine learning and mobile technology that drives tailored, meaningful content and conversations. With Kaiser Permanente, we implemented an interactive text-based medication adherence program that utilized demographic and behavioral data to deliver tailored dialogues to engage and activate their members on adhering to their chronic condition medications. This resulted in a 14 percentage point improvement of medication refills for a partially non-adherent Medicare population.

How is AI in health helping to improve the care experience?
The most valuable aspect of AI is twofold: first, that it uses a wide variety of data sources to improve it’s accuracy and second, that it leads to tailored interventions that improve health outcomes. At mPulse, we use AI to deliver dynamically tailored mobile content to help individuals make healthy behavior change.
