60% Of Home Audio Products Sold In '16 To Network

More than 60 percent of home audio products sold in 2016 will ship with embedded networking solutions such as DLNA and Apple's AirPlay, driven by consumers who frequently use tablets to listen to music at home, a Parks Associates study forecasts.

With more than 60 percent of U.S. tablet owners using their tablet on a weekly basis to listen to music, "these consumer habits will drive deployment of home audio products with embedded networking technologies," Parks contended.

Kurt Scherf, Parks VP, said, "The continuing popularity of music services is pushing consumers to find new ways to enjoy their growing libraries of audio content. Consumers are using products such as smartphones and media tablets for music access and playback, and they want ways to distribute that content around the home. Networked audio products give them the ability to have a high-quality multi-room music experience."

Manufacturers that expand their networked audio products selection to point-to-point solutions such as MP3 speaker docks, lower-cost external speakers and Internet radios "will be well-positioned to take advantage of digital music consumption trends," Parks continued.

The company's "Networked Audio Products: Market Update" examines the technologies enabling the wireless in-home streaming of music services to a variety of products. The report also profiles suppliers of chipset and software solutions, examines products most likely to include embedded solutions, and provides market forecasts.
