Smartphone sales to exceed 800 million by 2015

More than 2 billion people around the globe will own a smartphone in 2015 as video chat and app-enabled content consumption becomes ubiquitous. "Smartphones represent a new lifestyle," said Harry Wang, director, Mobile Research, Parks Associates in a study released on May 17.

"Consumer desire for that lifestyle has accelerated the traditional mobile phone replacement cycle and will drive near-term hypergrowth of the smartphone market. Research firm Parks Associates also predicts that the number of smartphone users will quadruple over the next 5 years.
