Wide-range WiMax may spur wireless broadband revolution

Rocky Mountain News It's dubbed WiMax. And boosters predict this much-hyped technology will usher in a new revolution in high-speed wireless communications. It's a revolution that could be significant for Colorado, with its hills, mountains and large open spaces - territory that usually doesn't attract high-speed Internet providers seeking an easy buck.

According to a study by Parks Associates, a Dallas research firm, the number of worldwide residential subscribers using WiMax is expected to reach 7.3 million by 2009 vs. zero today. The number doesn't include mobile users who might use WiMax in a laptop or handheld device while on the go.
