Top smart thermostat brands include Google Nest, Honeywell Home (Resideo), and ecobee
Parks Associates’ latest market assessment, Smart Thermostat Market Assessment 2025, forecasts that smart thermostat sales will grow over the next five years. In 2030, the US market for smart thermostats is projected to achieve sales of 8.1 million units, with annual revenues exceeding $1.1 billion. Current adoption of current smart thermostats is 16-17% of US internet households, and the top smart thermostat brands purchased in the last year are Google Nest and Honeywell Home.
The new research analyzes market trends and provides consumer data on engagement with smart thermostats, focusing on consumer familiarity, purchase motivations, and the buyer journey. The research tracks over 50 active brands in the US smart thermostat market and highlights the top 10 brands owned:
1. Google Nest
2. Honeywell Home
3. ecobee
4. Amazon
5. ADT
6. Sensi
7. Lennox
8. Trane
9. Bosch
10. Carrier
“Resideo’s smart thermostats under the Honeywell Home brand have performed well, owing in large part to their focus on integration with security, their DERMS platform, and pro-install channels,” said Daniel Holcomb, Senior Analyst, Parks Associates. “Despite multiple moves in 2024 related to energy features and integrations, as well as expanding its role in the security market, ecobee has not taken market share from the leaders. For recent purchases, Sensi is on the upswing.”
Other research highlights:
- Smart thermostat adoption is driven by desire for remote control and energy cost concerns: 61% of households cite high energy bills.
- 37% of smart thermostat owners identify as Early Majority tech buyers, up from 26% in 2020. They are practical buyers, expecting value from their purchases, rather than seeking out new tech like Early Adopters and Innovators.
- 32% of smart thermostat owners view energy insights in their thermostats today, but this information is likely limited to just HVAC use.
“Smart thermostat manufacturers must leverage next-gen hardware to appeal to the mass market and ensure that the thermostats end up on the wall. They must also educate consumers on features and money savings to drive further adoption and engagement,” Holcomb said.
