As a part of the U.S. Energy Department’s State Energy Program, 13 states were presented with nearly $4 million to increase energy savings and raise energy efficiency within public institutions, local governments and industrial sectors.
Alabama, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin were given $751,000 to address barriers to greater investment in energy efficiency and combined heat and power technologies. The department awarded $1 million to assist Arkansas and Mississippi create policy and program frameworks essential to encourage cost-effective energy efficiency investments and establish or increase statewide energy-savings goals. Lastly, approximately $2 million was given to Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin to retrofit public housing as well as local government and state facilities.
