Parks Associates European research finds roughly one-third of German and French broadband households and 45% of U.K. broadband households purchased a smartphone in the last six months. These devices are leading the increase in connected and mobile CE adoption among Western European households, which is opening new options for service providers in security and energy offerings.

The research firm will host CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetization Strategies for the Connected Home November 12-13, Mövenpick Hotel, Amsterdam. The event features the session "Integration of Security and Energy into Service Provider Offerings," where executives from AlertMe, Amdocs, npower, Linear, and Securitas Direct – Verisure will discuss business opportunities for service providers entering the home controls market.

Already 10-12% of broadband households in the U.K. and France own a home control solution where they can control a device such as a thermostat or security camera via a smartphone or PC. Safety and security applications resonate strongly with European consumers, but aversion to monthly fees means providers need to offer different flavors of service, from self-monitoring options to professional services, in order to attract new consumers and build solid recurring revenues.
