Ember, a company known for making chips, gear and software for ZigBee-based wireless networks, was bought on May 21st by Silicon Labs for $72 million. Founded in 2001, Ember was created to build a low power wireless standard and chip technology to create sensor networks and the Internet of Things.

The recent acquisition will place Silicon Labs in a good position for the high demand for low-power, small-footprint wireless technology. The recent purchase is expected to bring in over $10 million to Silicon Labs in the second half of 2012.
