Samsung and OpenX Technologies Inc. are joining foreces to enable advertisers to bid through an exchange for available space on applications running on its digital gadgets. This service called Samsung AdHub Market, will enable advertisers to place targeted messages on Samsung phones and tablets beginning in the second half of the year. Advertisers will be able to purchase space within mobile devices both from app developers and Samsung. Pricing for this service has not yet been disclosed.

The move is part of Samsung's broader push to bring targeted advertising to electronic devices, including Internet-connected television sets. Samsung is taking a more hands-on role inserting advertisements into its mobile devices, putting the company in greater competition with Apple Inc. It also will pit the company against other mobile-ad services from Apple, Google and Millennial Media Inc.
