Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cablevision and Cox Communications customers will soon be able to log in to 50,000+ Wi-Fi hotspots as a result from a new roaming agreement from the 5 cable operators.
Roaming agreements like this one are not new to consumers. A few years ago, Time Warner, Comcast and Cablevision agreed to share hotspots in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Connecticut. However, the new agreement between the 5 companies will be the largest to date, covering New York City and the surrounding tri-state area, Los Angeles, Orlando and Philadelphia with plans to grow the number of hotspots and expand into more cities. The network will be shared in indoor and outdoor high traffic areas, including parks and shopping malls. Currently, only Time Warner Cable and Cablevision already have Wi-Fi finder apps to help subscribers stay connected as they move from one hotspot to another. But in the next couple of months, users will be able to automatically connect to the internet when they are inside one of the Wi-Fi hotspots.
