Netflix is planning a “substantial” European expansion later this year. The video streaming company, already operating in the UK and the Northlands, is rumored to be expanding its services into France and Germany.

When Reed Hastings, CEO, Netflix, was asked about the company’s expansion, he did not give specifics. However, he did mention that European markets can have strong video players, such as the UK’s BBc iPlayer, Lovefilm, and Sky, but Nextflix can still build a successful business.

At the end of 2013, the Netflix had over 44 million members and expects the total to rise to 48 million in the first quarter of 2014. Its international services had 1.74 million members in Q4 2013 and ended the year with 10.93 million.
