Recently, Nest opened its software in order to integrate its IP-enabled learning thermostat with third-party home automation systems. The company’s current partner, Control4, highlighted Nest integrated with lights, thermostats, motorized shades and other smart devices at the 2013 CEDIA EXPO.
Integration is though Nest’s cloud service, which pushes the thermostat states to Control4’s cloud and ultimately to the home control system. However, the learning features of Nest are not incorporated into the driver. As result, if there is a conflict between Control4 and Nest, the thermostat will win. Consumers will not be able to schedule their thermostats through Control4 because Nest’s thermostats build around user behavior.
If a consumer has Nest thermostat, they can integrate it with Control4, but the better experience is with Control4’s thermostats. When a user changes the temperature, with Control4, the system will ask if you want to return to the usual settings in two hours. The feature is built into the firmware of the thermostat, and it not available on through Nest’s products.
