Recently, Microsoft Corp launched a new software application to connect Xbox game consoles to tablets and smartphones. This new application will turn mobile devices into a second screen for gaming and entertainment.

The software corporation has been trying to make Xbox a living-room entertainment hub of, which has sold 67 million units since its launch in 2005. Microsoft is now expanding the entertainment console’s features to mobile devices.

Before the E3 conference, Microsoft announced its new application, SmartGlass, which can be downloaded on Windows phones and Windows 8 tablets, and also devices powered by competing companies including Apple Inc's iOS and Google Inc's Android operating systems.

SmartGlass allows users to see "companion content," from TV to games, on the smaller screen. For example, gamers playing a sports video game on an Xbox in the same room could design plays on individual tablets without showing their opponent. For TV, someone watching a show through a streaming service via Xbox could simultaneously browse websites about the show's cast.
