I couldn't help hearing several comments throughout the week about cable's struggles to put forth industry-wide digital lifestyle solutions. Whether it was CableHome for remote diagnostics, tru2way/OCAP for moving their services to new devices, or EBIF for interactivity, folks see cable struggling against the rise of connected consumer electronics, smart TVs, and the game console.
At the same time, we're hearing from companies like Affinegy that cable operators are moving in a TR-069 direction for device and service management, and that seems to be a positive step in getting a handle on the expected 8 billion home network nodes that will be deployed worldwide by 2015. Cablevision seems to agree. I also saw a recent news article about Rogers Cable in Canada selecting ClearAccess' TR-069 solution.
Again, I managed to narrow down the cable struggle comments into "Does the cable industry have the opposite of the Midas Touch" (with its industry-wide standards efforts)?
