The Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building, Martin Lidegaard, announced a new act requiring utilities to install smart meters in all Danish households.
Since 2011, iPower, Denmark’s consortium of research and innovation in intelligent energy, universities and the Danish energy sector have been creating solutions for a future intelligent energy system. iPower has found that Danish households can reduce energy consumption by 15% when it is presented in a way that is simple to understand. The association believes that smart meters in every home will result in lower energy usage across the country.
Three of iPower’s companies, Saseco, Kamstrup, and Develco Products, have been working together and have developed a variety of new products that create tailored solutions to the individual consumer.
Saseco has created a web based solution where consumers can monitor energy consumption online. When this solution is combined with a smart meter, consumers can understand their energy consumption. Develco Products offers wireless components for building automation for power meters, sensors, thermometers, and internet gateways. When these products are combined with Sasecos’ web solutions, consumers can receive accurate information about their energy consumption. As a result of the collaboration, consumers will be able to purchase a Kamstrup smart meter what will interact with products developed by Develco and Saseco.
