In one of the sessions, "International Experiences: Translation for the U.S. Market," the speakers Gian Paolo Balboni, Head, Strategic Trends, Telecom Italia; Ralph Brown, CTO, CableLabs; and Andreas Martschitsch, Head of Digital Home, Swisscom, discussed efforts in other countries to expand the smart grid and deploy smart meters and energy-related services. Some countries, such as Italy, have taken somewhat different approaches to peak load issue - if any one household uses more than 3 kW instantaneously, the breaker trips.
