Parks Associates research shows that as of 2014, 16% of U.S. broadband households have purchased at least one smart home device. Nearly two-thirds of these owners have their devices attached to a centralized controller provided by the company providing professional security.

However, 60% of U.S. broadband consumers are not familiar with smart products and services, and even more did not know where to buy them. Service providers are in a unique position to help decrease this lack of awareness, thanks in part to their already established relationships with consumers.

Parks Associates recently published a complimentary industry whitepaper examining the elements required for service providers to succeed in the highly competitive smart home market.

Some of the topics within the whitepaper include:

  • Current smart home system adoption and awareness by U.S. broadband consumers
  • Factors driving service providers into the smart home market
  • How cloud-based data analytics are encouraging new business models within the smart home ecosystem
  • The value of interoperability over stand-alone devices for the smart home
