Telecommunications companies are trying to get a piece of the digital home security market.
Bell Aliant Inc. is the latest technology and communication company to roll out a home security and monitoring service, completing with of Rogers Communications Inc., Eastlink Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc.
The NextGen Home Security service allows customers to control their home security system, lights, thermostats and even locks remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer. This communications provider bet big on its fibre optic network and is now harnessing that technology to make the dream of the connected home a reality. The security system can alert customers of fires, break-ins, floods and carbon monoxide threats and dispatch emergency responders and send homeowners alerts. It also allows customers to remotely control door locks, thermostats, lighting and appliances and monitor a loved one or pet using secure video cameras.
According to a Parks Associates industry report, roughly 18 million to 20 million United States households will adopt one of the available Internet-based home security and automation services by 2020.
