This week, Google announced that they now own Motorola Mobility after receiving approval from China. Industry analysts believe that the main reason why Google bought Motorola Mobility was for its patents. Currently, the search company and its vendors are in legal battles because of claims that Android violates patents. Motorola Mobility holds thousands of patents and patent applications that could come in handy for any future legal proceedings.

While the two companies will operate separately, Google has claimed not to show any favoritism toward Motorola. However, their union has made some of Motorola’s competitors not so convinced and have forced Google to keep Android open for another five years.
