Best Buy plans to overhaul its 1,105 U.S. stores with new energy management systems that can cut energy costs and carbon output by 15% within the next three years.
Currently, the electronics retailer spends about $10,000 a month on energy for each of its U.S. stores. The new internal energy management systems are expected to save each store about $1,500 a month, or $71 million company-wide over the next six years, without affecting workforce numbers.
This will help the company meet its BE GREEN goal by cutting 20% off carbon emissions caused by its operations over the next 8 years.
Best Buy will consider expanding the systems to its distribution centers, territory offices and overseas stores.
