AT&T will soon provide connectivity for GE’s M2M program. This will enable employees of companies that use GE industrial machinery to remotely and securely access those products. GE currently has deals with Accenture, Amazon Web Services, and Cisco Systems.

This agreement is a part of GE’s “Industrial Internet” plan, which combines GE heavy industrial products, including equipment used in transporation, aviation, utilities, and sensors in all types of products, along with big data analysis for increasingly sophisticated control. Using AT&T network connectivity, employees will be able to remotely track, monitor, record and operate GE machinery.

Both GE and AT&T expect the same network will eventually also support M2M connectivity. The companies are planning to use AT&T’s network, single Global SIM (subscriber identity module), device expertise, security, and cloud access for industrial products such as electric vehicle chargers, lighting and engines.

The companies are also planning to work together in the AT&T Foundry innovation center to build M2M solutions for GE’s software platform Predix, a management system that can remotely control industrial machines.
