The Xbox One And PS4 Don't Need To Make 4K A Priority

4K TV adoption has been slow, as the TV industry in general has seen a slowdown with 3D failing spectacularly and the rise of consumers watching video on laptops, tablets and phones. As such, the forecasts for 4K adoption show that while it may very well be the next format everyone switches to, it’s going to take an exceptionally long time to approach anything resembling mass adoption.

One report from Parks Associates says that it will take 10-12 years for 4K to reach 80% adoption, which is what HDTV currently enjoys in the market. And even in the optimistically titled “The Rise of 4K” report from Business Insider, which predicts a faster rollout than HD, their upward sloping chart hits 5% adoption in 2017, and 20% in 2020. But don’t worry, by 2030, when presumably one of the Obama children will be president, we’ll be at 95% adoption.
