Summer Blockbusters Challenge 3DTV Skeptics

Parks Associates, recently surveyed more than 600 3DTV owners and found 56% were “very satisfied” with 3D features of their television sets. In fact, a majority of those surveyed would like their 3DTVs on a monthly basis, and 65% want access to more 3D movies.

As John Barrett, Parks’ director, consumer analytics, illustrates, the market for 3DTV comes down to the experiencing, saying, “People who have a 3DTV set use it, like it, and want more content for it.” Still, it comes down to market penetration, and research from Parks shows currently a mere 6% of U.S. households have a 3DTV. This low penetration rate, says Barrett, is due in part to high prices and lack of content, and not the technology itself.
