While the advent of IP is enabling the expansion of these new business lines, it also opens new vulnerabilities as zealous “anytime, anywhere” consumers find new ways to access this content outside of legitimate supply chains. The advent of IP has highlighted the opportunity content owners have in defining and guiding rights for distribution in this new windowing environment. Hower will also be speaking in the session, "Consumer Habits in OTT Viewing" on November 12, from 2:00 - 2:30 PM. With younger consumers showing a preference for non-linear viewing, OTT providers have stepped in to fill the viewer need for premium content on an on-demand basis. OTT video services are becoming a more important source of consumer video content, but OTT services have not replaced pay-TV services as Parks Associates research shows approximately 90% of OTT subscribers also subscribe to a pay-TV service. As cord-cutting has failed to become a force thus far, the session will explore how OTT services fit into a pay-TV consumer world.
