In-App Advertising Revenues to Reach $2 Billion in U.S. in 2013

Parks Associates today announced adRise, NAGRA, Rovi, Samsung, and YuMe will discuss revenue strategies and consumer app usage in the session "Monetization of Connected Devices: Apps and Advertising" at CONNECTIONS™, co-located with CTIA, May 20-23 in Las Vegas.

The research firm reports that ad-supported apps will account for 88% of all apps downloaded in the U.S. by 2016, accounting for 26% of all app revenues.

CONNECTIONS™: The Premier Connected Home Conference, hosted by Parks Associates, focuses on innovative strategies to monetize solutions for the connected consumer. The conference features research sessions on OTT video, apps, mobile and connected CE, and the connected home.
"U.S. revenues for the smartphone and tablet in-app advertising market will reach nearly $2 billion this year," said Heather Way, Senior Research Analyst, Parks Associates. "Younger consumers, including Millennials, are more inclined to engage in second-screen search, discovery, and social activities, and their recall and response rates for in-app ads are higher than other consumer segments. At CONNECTIONS™, we will explore the strategies to monetize their engagement."

"This topic couldn't be more relevant to the burgeoning connected home conversation," said Michael Hudes, EVP, YuMe. "We're seeing a steady push for multiscreen video advertising supported by consumer interaction widespread across all devices. A recent Parks Associates study reveals in the past 30 days, 69% of U.S. broadband households watched video on a computer, 18% on a tablet, and 29% on a mobile phone. These consumer use cases are what will continue to develop and shape the connected home ecosystem."

"adRise is seeing tremendous demand from both brand advertisers and premium content distributors for distributing and monetizing content on connected TV devices," said Thomas Ahn Hicks, Head, Business Development & Strategy, adRise. "Due to our patent-pending technologies, we've become the leading advertising and content monetization platform for connected TV devices. Advertisers are seeking interactive, targetable video ads while content distributors are realizing high ROI that they can only get from interactive video ads on the living-room TV."

The executive session, moderated by Way on May 20 at 3 p.m., analyzes the different business models and consumer preferences for recommendation and second-screen services, including fee-based apps, in-app purchases, and advanced advertising.
