63% of Smart TV Owners Have the Device Connected and 79% of Them Use It to Watch Online Video Regularly

Parks Associates today announced new research showing 26% of U.S. broadband households own a smart TV and 46% own at least one set-top box. Furthermore, 63% of smart TV owners connect the set to the Internet, and 79% of these owners use the TV to watch premium online video on a monthly basis.

Corporate executives and Parks Associates analysts will focus on connected and mobile CE at the 17th-annual CONNECTIONS(TM): The Premier Connected Home Conference, co-located with CTIA 2013 in Las Vegas, May 20-23. CONNECTIONS(TM) will be in the Murano Rooms on the third floor of the Venetian Hotel, directly above the CTIA 2013 sessions, providing attendees of both events with a deeper look into the impact of mobility on consumer expectations and the connected home industries.

"Mobility is a key part of the connected home, with the average broadband user watching 1.6 hours of video on a mobile phone each week," said Stuart Sikes, president, Parks Associates. "Our research shows consumers are watching the same kinds of movies and TV programs on mobile phones and tablets as they are on computers and TV sets, shifting competition from subscriptions to content and multiscreen offerings. Starz, Samsung, and AT&T bring significant expertise in the role of content and mobility in building strong consumer services. Their insights will be invaluable at CONNECTIONS(TM)." More than 100 speakers will participate in CONNECTIONS(TM) sessions focused on innovative technology solutions and strategies to monetize digital content, mobile and connected CE, and value-added services.

Sessions include "Cloud, Apps, and Big Data Surround the Connected Home" (May 20), "Building the Experience: Evolutionary Steps to Interoperability" (May 21), and "Leveraging Connected and Mobile Devices for Content and Controls" (May 22).

CONNECTIONS(TM) Keynotes: Jonathan Kim, VP, Content & Services, Samsung Media Solutions Center (MSCA), Samsung Tricia Parks, CEO, Parks Associates John Penney, EVP, Strategy, Business Development, & Worldwide Distribution, Starz Kevin Petersen, President, AT&T Digital Life, Inc.

"Consumers want to be able to use mobile technology to be able to stay connected to their homes, anytime and anywhere. CONNECTIONS(TM) sessions offer attendees an opportunity to hear from experts and innovators on what consumers want now and future trends," said Robert Mesirow, VP, Show Director, CTIA.

Event sponsors include Cisco, Sprint, Allegro, Lowe's, Qualcomm, Sutherland Global Services, UpdateLogic, Amdocs, Arrayent, Asurion, MphasiS, Net2TV, Qresolve, Sigma Designs, Support.com, AlertMe, Linear, and HomePlug Alliance.

CONNECTIONS(TM) also features the Connected Home Pavilion, showcasing demonstrations from connected home technology companies. Visit Parks Associates at CTIA Booth #5550.
