App Revenues to Exceed $20 Billion in North America in 2017

Parks Associates announced today Accedo, Apsalar, Adobe, Pandora, and 3scale will participate in the CONNECTIONS(TM) session "The Evolution of the App Ecosystem," to examine the impact of device adoption and demand for content on the mobile app market.

CONNECTIONS(TM), hosted by Parks Associates, is co-located with CTIA on May 20-23 in Las Vegas. Parks Associates estimates mobile app revenues in the U.S. and Canada will reach nearly $22 billion in 2017, fueled by in-app purchases and in-app advertising revenues. The app ecosystem session is moderated by Harry Wang, director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates.

Panelists:

David Adams, VP Corporate Development, Accedo

Michael Oiknine, CEO, Apsalar

Ray Pun, Director, Mobile Strategy, Adobe

Alison White, Senior Business Development Manager, Pandora

Steve Willmott, CEO, 3scale

"What most companies will agree on is the importance of mobile, yet the best practices for succeeding in the space are not always clear to companies just starting out on mobile," Oiknine said. "It's becoming evident that mobile user data will play a key role in the mobile strategies of these businesses. I look forward to discussing some of these data findings and best practices at CONNECTIONS(TM)."

"Apps are also increasingly becoming embedded in real-world objects -- with companies such as Johnson Controls wiring commercial buildings, or Samsung launching Android-controlled fridges," Willmott said. "This shift begins to blur the distinction between online and offline."

"At Accedo, we believe that the pairing of mobile and tablet devices, the second screen, to the TV will become an important part of the user experience," Adams said. "There are a number of attractive use cases, which we believe will be readily adopted by consumers, such as using the second screen as a better way to browse and search, to control the first screen, and to view enhanced information, such as details about a specific program."

"While the desire to enhance any mood, moment or situation with music has remained steadfast, connected devices have significantly changed the way music is consumed," White said. "Pandora has now surpassed 200 million registered users and more than 140 million have accessed Pandora on a smartphone. Our listeners' extraordinary embrace of personalized radio on their smartphones has enabled Pandora to reach massive scale in mobile and over 1 in 3 smartphone users in the U.S. have listened to Pandora in the past month."

CONNECTIONS(TM) features keynotes from AT&T, Parks Associates, Samsung, and Starz. Sponsors are Cisco, Sprint, Allegro, Lowe's, Qualcomm, Sutherland Global Services, UpdateLogic, Amdocs, Arrayent, Asurion, MphasiS, Net2TV, Qresolve, Sigma Designs, Support.com, AlertMe, Linear, and HomePlug Alliance.
