Smart meter deployments to exceed 50 million in 2013

Parks Associates today announced executives from Duke Energy, Reliant, PlanetEcosystems, and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will participate in the interactive session "The Role of Energy Providers in Home Energy Management" during the fourth-annual Smart Energy Summit: Engaging the Consumer, February 25-27 in San Antonio, Texas.

"Our research shows the U.S. market will have over 50 million utility-based smart meters deployed by 2013, reaching 62 million by 2015," said Stuart Sikes, president, Parks Associates. "The outlook for smart meters to interact with connected CE and appliances in the home has changed drastically as electricity providers are now exploring partnerships with communications and security service providers."

Solutions with energy-efficiency components were prominent throughout CES 2013, and Parks Associates research finds 60%-80% of U.S. consumers will pay for energy-saving products like smart thermostats, smart water-tank controllers, and attic insulation.

"Interest in these solutions is strongest among younger consumers, ages 18-34," Sikes said. "At the Smart Energy Summit, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities for energy providers in this new consumer-oriented market."

Smart Energy Summit focuses on consumer engagement with energy management services and technologies, partnership opportunities, and consumer-oriented solutions. The session "The Role of Energy Providers in Home Energy Management," February 26, features:

Denis Garman, Category Leader, Duke Energy, Home Efficiency Solutions Bill Harmon, VP Residential Strategy & Segment Marketing, Reliant V. Rory Jones, President, PlanetEcosystems Ted M. Reguly, Director, Customer Programs and Assistance, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)

Session speakers will also address new solutions that expand consumer participation in demand response (DR) programs and the impact of IP-based home monitoring and controls on the home energy market.

Sponsors for Smart Energy Summit include Alarm.com, ecobee, EcoFactor, Hitachi, Lowe's, PlanetEcosystems, Qualcomm, Sigma Designs, and Itron.
