An Unstructured Market

So just how big is the structured wiring market now?  One research company, Parks Associates, has tracked emerging technologies for the home since the 1980s.  According to Kurt Scherf, VP of research at Parks, "Approximately 1.5 to 1.6 million homes are built in the U.S. every year.  More and more professionals in the construction industry realize that structured wiring is a way to differentiate their homes and quite frankly make more money."

Scherf, who specializes in home networking technology, added, "We expect that by the end of 2004, nearly 50 percent of all newly built homes in the U.S. will have structured wiring solutions installed.  Translated into end-user market values, this equates into a $1 billion industry. Obviously a huge market opportunity."
