CONNECTIONS™ to Examine Business Threats to Mobile Operators in Mobile Cloud Session Next Month

App stores, social networking platforms, and cloud-based innovations are forcing mobile operators to reexamine their business models, according to Parks Associates, which noted that global smartphone sales surged more than 70% in 2010. Executives from Ericsson, Femto Forum, HCL, Telcordia, and Zodiac Interactive will join Parks Associates for the session “The Mobile Cloud: Apps, Services and Innovations" at CONNECTIONS™: The Digital Living Conference and Showcase, June 28-30 in Santa Clara.

“Over one-third of U.S. smartphone users prefer accessing mobile content through apps rather than a web browser," said Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates. "Parks Associates has called on operators for multiple years to beef up their own content and value-added service offerings in light of threats from app stores. With the success of storefronts such as Apple’s iTunes and Google’s Android Market, operators must work to close the gap, and we will discuss these strategies at CONNECTIONS™."
