TMC NetParks Associates recently released a report titled “Fixed-Mobile Convergence (News - Alert): Consumers and Business Models,” which examines the current state of 3G deployments across the world. The report calls for the number of 3G subscribers in the world to exceed 2.5 billion by the year 2013. Asia alone is expected to have more than 1 billion customers.

According to the report, the increase will lead to the development of fixed-mobile convergence solutions. This will in turn facilitate the creation of new service options which will enable subscribers to access video, audio and community applications through their mobile devices.
