Roku beating Apple TV in market share for streaming video devices

Roku leads Apple TV and other Internet video device providers in market share, with 37 percent of households with a streaming media device in the first quarter using a Roku, Parks Associates said Wednesday.

Apple TV placed second with a 24 percent share of the market, the research firm said.

Roku, which distributes Time Warner Cable's TWC TV app, faces increased competition from Google's new Chromecast streaming video device and connected TV manufacturers such as Samsung, LG and Sony.
