Roku, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon And Apple Lead The Digital Streaming Space, In That Order

When it comes to the popularity of streaming media devices, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) ranks last in the list that includes Roku, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). After tracking the digital streaming market over the past year, Parks Associates says that Roku is the king in the U.S. digital streaming scene. Roku sold far more devices in the year under review than any of its competitors, but Google is a formidable challenger with its Chromecast.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Apple TV is fading in popularity. The survey by Parks Associates found out that Apple TV fell to the fourth position in 2014, behind Amazon’s Fire TV. Apple TV ranked third in the U.S. digital streaming space in 2013.

In terms of popularity, Roku is the most popular streaming device, with 34% of the market share. Google’s Chromecast comes in second with 24% of the market share. Amazon’s Fire TV and Apple’s Apple TV come in third and fourth place, respectively.

The top-four streaming device providers account for 86% of the U.S. overall digital streaming market.
