The new features arrive as Amazon has gained traction in the marketplace. While Roku remains the most popular streaming media player, according to Parks Associates, Amazon has moved into a second place tie with Google's Chromecast.

Amazon and Google each sold 22% of devices -- Amazon increased its share from 16% last year, while Google's fell from 23% -- while Apple TV earned 20%, up from 13%.
