"Importantly, all of these services have increased their subscriber base over the past year. The top five OTT services have stayed consistent, primarily through maintaining or growing the massive user and subscriber bases that they have built over the past several years," said Parks Associates.
2016 may be considered the year that streaming grew up, the firm noting that streaming video providers saw 200 Emmy nominations and over 40 wins this year. Parks also notes that the majority of streaming video subscribers watch these services via their living room television, despite the proliferation of smartphones and tablets.
